No Birka

Jan. 29th, 2009 | 11:34 am

Long story short, work is downsizing. Options were severance package and find a new job or go part time. I need the money and well I can't bring myself to travel to Birka knowing I've only got a part time job right now.

Another dip in the vat of suck.

American

Jan. 20th, 2009 | 10:13 pm

I was born in the United States. I was raised in the United States. I have always been a proud American. In the last eight years, mostly the last few that I've began to care about politics - I've questioned my pride in my country.  I don't talk politics and I don't like to debate and argue them. Mostly, because I'm an angry fuck and I hate morons.  I keep to myself for the part on the subject however I would like to say:

Today I am proud to be an American. I am proud of my country.

Really

Jan. 19th, 2009 | 07:04 pm

In case anybody was unsure, the Pittsburgh Steelers are garbage.

On a happier note, I went to Freehold Yule this past weekend and saw lots of folks I hadn't seen in a while. Amongst them was Rev & Skya and their baby who's name I'm forgetting. She's getting big fast, quite a surprise.

Now then... is it time for Birka yet?

Work

Jan. 15th, 2009 | 07:40 am

"Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled; that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired."

Birka

Jan. 14th, 2009 | 02:49 pm

Anyone going to Birka or know of someone going to Birka who might have some crash space on their floor?

Plan A. fell through, so I'm just looking for an alternative. Thoughts are find a floor to crash on at Birka or maybe a place to crash in the Boston area after the event.

Thanks for your help.

WTF

Jan. 14th, 2009 | 01:01 pm
mood: angry angry
music: Throwdown - Declare Your War

So when the guy in financial aid says "alright man you're all set, your classes are paid for. good luck this semester" do you think he was really trying to say was:

"Our records show that you have not yet paid for your spring tuition and fees. Your payment was due January 13, 2008.  We are writing to notify you that we have had to cancel your registration for Spring 09 semester courses because we did not receive your payment information by the deadline."

Part of a sweet email I woke up to this morning. Firstly, what kind of fucking college emails that rather than calling and saying "Hello (name), your tuition isn't paid for, what's the deal? If this isn't taken care of we're going to have to unregister you for the spring semester." I mean really, lets just email this tiny critical bit of information and hope the student gets it. So now I'm dealing with the college trying to get ahold of said financial aid officer who apparently is allotted 3 hour lunch breaks. Sweet job man, really. I wouldn't give that up.

Helm cloth type aventail? Halllllp.

Jan. 10th, 2009 | 07:15 pm

Somebody with knowledge... help!

The aventail. Chainmail piece that goes on a helm and covers the lower half of the face on the helm flowing onto the shoulders... what's the word for the cloth version of that.  I have seen some very decorative versions and have no idea what they're called.

Cookies to the winner.

Nothing says "Good morning, welcome to Tuesday" like 2, 5 inch cracks in your windshield.

I am ready to leave Vermont... now.

// real life

New Years Eve was fantastic.  I drove down to the Boston area and surprised many old faces who I had missed very much. I started New Years off with a bang at The Dark Place. It was a great time - I love those people. Tequila's and wines were consumed, board games were played, movies and much needed relaxation took place.

Christmas was quiet in Vermont. It was also a good time.. short and sweet.

I am getting ready for what should be my last semester in college for a while. I am working scummy jobs to support myself with hopes that this piece of paper will pay off. I am also doing free lance web design & graphic art for various clients.  If you or someone you know needs a designer, check out www.aidanhowe.com

Not to long ago the SCA and drama made friends in my local group. I personally had no involvement with the happenings and to this day stick to the fact that I'm not going to allow myself to be sucked into drama in my hobbies. However when the drama went down, many friends and family stopped playing in the SCA. I have missed what the SCA is and what it is meant to be. I've missed the great friends I've made, many of which I consider as close to my heart as family.

It is my new years resolution that I will be playing a lot this year. I plan to see these friends as much as possible.

I am training harder than I ever have before in the "warrior arts". When I swore fealty to Thorson at Fall Harvest a couple of years ago, I swore to give my 100%. I dreamt, breathed, and lived heavy list combat.  I was training 1-2 hours a day on the pell, going to practice as often as possible up this way. I let this said drama crush the hopes and dreams of the game I play, and set my training to a dead hault.  This won't happen again ;) See you all soon, fired up more than ever.

Weekend update

May. 28th, 2008 | 01:35 pm
mood: good good
music: Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane

I speant the weekend in Beatown and the surrounding area. The reason being, Trent and Bethany's wedding. Congrats to them - they both rock. Thanks to them for having me stay at their place too.

Friday was a chill sort of day - we just got some errands done and prepped for the wedding day some more.

Saturday we woke up pretty early and went down to the paintball field where we met up with lots of friends.  Loads of fun... Between Trent and D.A. they've gotten me hooked on yet another hobby.

Sunday was the wedding day. Lots of driving back and forth from house to hotel to church and so on but the wedding rocked. After the wedding everyone went back to the hotel where the reception / dinner was held.

On top of an awesome wedding I got to head up to a "Crafty" BBQ and then went and saw Ironman with James. What an awesome movie... thank you for not dissapointing me hollywood  :)

Love Boston, love the friends I've got down there - hope to see you all soon.

IMHO...

May. 19th, 2008 | 10:25 pm

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian sucked.

"If you ever wondered what The Lord of the Rings would have been like had Disney made it on the cheap, tossing the cast of Hannah Montana into Middle Earth, here it is. Caspian is two hours and 20 minutes of 'Whatever'. "

The mouse was mildly cool though.

1 class

May. 7th, 2008 | 04:19 pm

1 class away from another semester of college done. I should have just one semester left after this summer. With that said - look forward to seeing all my SCAdian friends soon.

Thinking I may want to be in Boston this summer so if anyone knows of any work or rooms available anywhere, give me a shout :)

Off to start packing and cleaning up.
